Highland Wildlife

From the deer in the fields, to the occasional golden eagle soaring overhead, and the playful grey seals in the Loch, there’s plenty to see, leaving you in awe of the majestic surroundings.

If you’re lucky enough, you can see wild deer, pine martens, rare protected crested newts, ring oozles, cuckoos, barn owls and field mice to Venus flytraps in the forest, all scattered throughout the mountainous countryside – land, sea and sky.

On the Farm

My husband Morgan fell under the spell of Inverlael over a hundred years ago. He had always longed to live in this magical place, which is a special friendly highland neighbourhood.

However, it wasn’t until 1959 that he was able live here, farm here, and raise our two children Johnny and Mary. Johnny helps with the day to day running of the Farm and you may bump into him during your stay. He is in the process of setting up fishing trips and historic tours around Loch Broom on his boat.

As Inverlael falls under the Clan MacKenzie Land, the Chieftain of Clan Mackenzie kindly took Johnny officially under the protection of Clan Mackenzie and in the old traditional way, granted him entitlement to wear the MacKenzie kilt.

We farm cattle, sheep and sometimes pigs at Inverlael. We have a very fine herd of the Native Luing cattle, ruled over by Anne, our very charismatic highland cow and some even more charismatic hens who will provide you with fresh free range eggs.

We have become part of the Lochbroom Cottages hospitality industry and it is our pleasure to welcome visitors, both Outlanders from the South and our nearer Scottish staycation guests.

We have 26 Munros in the vicinity, spectacular scenery and just 7 miles from Ullapool, the gateway to the Hebrides.  We hope the Inverlael experience is one you will never forget !
